Compare car reliability

5 useful head-to-heads, not all 300 possible combinations. Each comparison answers which car the evidence favours, checks whether the confidence intervals really separate them, and then compares failure components, retests, mileage exposure, care proxies, recalls and common overseas inspection data.

Ordinary pairs require at least 50,000 initial tests for each family and a common size class or market segment. The five named high-intent comparisons are retained as demand exceptions. Lower index is better;100 is normal for a fleet's age.

Why some pairs are not published

The anti-thin-content gate rejected 24 pairs because at least one family was below 50,000 tests and 191 because the models shared neither size class nor segment. A further 31 were held back by the per-model diversity cap and 14 fell below the 40-page publication cut. The complete mechanical audit is stored in the generated compare-pair data.
