If a MGB fails, does it fail again?

23% of MGBs that failed an MOT failed the next one too, against 15.2% after a pass (2019–2024, n = 1,470). The failure most likely to come back is seat belts and supplementary restraint systems: 28.4% of those fails recurred at the next MOT.

Does the MGB fail inspections in other countries too?

In the Netherlands, 55.5% of MGBs failed their periodic roadworthiness inspection, against 50.8% for all cars there (2024 by country, n = 797 inspections).

Both readings are shown: this comparison changes when usage or inspection rules differ.

Inspections abroad disagree: none point the same way as Britain, the Netherlands do not. Test rules, climate and how the vehicles are used differ, so both readings are shown.

MGB MOT: quick answers

What is the MGB first-time MOT pass rate?

81.7% of first attempts passed in 2024 (4,193 tests). Retests after repair are excluded; cars fixed at the test centre (PRS) are shown separately.

Why does this number differ from other sites?

Other sites may count retests or all attempts. This page uses 4,193 primary tests: 18.29% failed first time and 84.4% passed when cars fixed at the test centre (PRS) count as passes. The age-adjusted MOT Risk Index 44.7 is shown separately.
